Overview

Overnight island adventure (to capture the amazing sunset and sunrise light) for a small group of like-minded creative people seeking to build new connections, develop our skills in our craft, and get our creative juices flowing to produce some amazing new, and unique, content.

Yes, we all could insist that we are pros in our field and people must pay for our time - but as creatives it’s important that we commit time working on our craft, simply for the love of it.

If that resonates with you - then you are in the right place!!!

Main Considerations

  • Four great photographers, and four great models!!! (may extend to 5).

  • You are welcome to bring a +1 (Partner, helper, chaperone, friend).

  • Overnight to take advantage of the best sunset and sunrise light.

  • A focus on collaboration, being creative, and supporting each other to learn and grow.

  • Nobody is being paid, everyone is paying their own way - and the reward is some great content for everyone. Although one model will win a prize of $250, see below for details.

  • Plenty of social time, with great food, and drinks.

  • Include a 2hr mini collaborative workshop to help each other learn and grow with the sharing of ideas.

  • One-on-one time - each photographer and model working exclusively together for 1.5hr, on rotation, so that everyone gets to work with everyone, without pressure.

Cost

My goal is a low-cost weekend getaway on an island. Here is a cost breakdown:

Public Transport (train, bus, ferry) $30rtn

Dorm rooms: $45 per bed in a 4-bed dorm, or private double room: $125

Food and drink costs depend on what you choose to eat and drink - you could even bring your own.

The schedule

Saturday

9am - Ferry to the island and transfer to accommodation.

12pm - Lunch, drinks, light workshop, and to sort out the breakout groups (for the 1 on 1 sessions).

2pm Check in to rooms (hopefully - if not, then do it at the 4pm break)

2:30pm to 4pm - Break out session 1 (1.5hr)

4:00pm - 30 min break

4:30pm to 6pm - Break out session 2 (1.5hr) - Sunset is at 5:53pm

6:30pm - Dinner and drinks

Sunday

6am to 7:30am - Break out session 1 (1.5hr) - Sunrise is at 5:16am

7:30 to 8am - Breakfast

8am to 9:30am - Morning breakout sessions 2

10am - Check out, brunch, closing drinks.

11am - Leave accommodation and head back to the ferry

12pm - Ferry.

Getting there / and back

You can get to Cleveland on the train (50c) and there is a free bus from the train station to the ferry terminal.

There are TWO FERRY options, let’s all go with https://www.sealink.com.au/ (which is the second one the bus stops at, and next to the car ferry). The cost of the ferry is $22rtn or $17rtn if you book online.

The bus on the island is ($1 for a day pass)

Accommodation

www.matalodge.com.au and rates are $45p/p in a shared dorm (which we will book exclusive for our group) or $125 for a private (double/twin) room with shared bathroom.

Partners: You are welcome to bring your partner / chaperone / helper.

This is a very basic accommodation - and there is also Adder Rock campground a 100m away if you are really into your camping.

*** Once I have numbers and accommodation style - the earlier I can do a group booking.. So I need to lock this in as soon as possible.

Model Prize

Photographers - There will be a $250 prize for one of the models. If you would like to chip in to help cover that $250 it would be great, and if we get more than $250 in the pot, it will all go to the winning model.. 😀😀(I will commit a minimum of $100 no matter the pot size, and top up any shortfall to a min of $250).

Models - you have a 1 in 4 chance of winning the $250 prize!!!! That would cover all your costs for the weekend and leave some left over.

How it will work: On Sunday before we all depart, everyone (including models, partners, and any assistants) will all vote for the model of the event (not based on looks - but how they contributed to the event), and the winning model will get the pot of cash - Min $250!!!

Gear / Hair and Make Up / Etc.

Photographers - You will need to have all your own equipment - aside from camera and lenses I will be taking 2 speedlights, 2 small stands, 2 small modifiers, and a reflector. But be mindful of space - especially for the transfer between transport and accommodation.

Models - at this stage I am not planning for a HMUA - but that may change if I find one who is willing, or if you know one.. 😀😀 Bring a couple of outfits (you choose - it is a beach / coastal shoot - but that does not mean you even need to bring a bikini if you don’t wish too) and a large towel or sheet to get changed in if you wish to save time and not race back to accommodation to change. You may also want to go into the water - that is up to you.

Everyone - bring sun protection (Slip, Slop, Slap) maybe an extra large brimed hat, long sleved light weight shirts when waiting around, and you will need plenty of fluids.

Safety / Insurance

This is a YOU trip - meaning I am not a business, I am just inviting you to participate on an activity between friends.. YOU are responsible for your own safety. If a photographer suggests climbing up onto a rock and you think it is unsafe - then DO NOT DO IT. If you are not willing to be responsible for your own actions, safety, and wellbeing - then this is not the trip for you.
